An Interview with our Newest Dietitian Acacia Wright, RD – Healthcare Professionals Newsletter, June 2019

Q: Please tell us a little bit about yourself personally and professionally so that our readers will be able to “get to know you.”

A: I am mission driven, health centered and a believer in clean food magic. In other words, I’m an advocate for optimizing health through good nutrition. I discovered my passion for health and nutrition in my early twenties after traveling across Central America, where I observed the prevalence of malnutrition. Moved to ignite change and help others optimize their health, I pursued a career in Dietetics focused on functional medicine and nutrition. As a Dietitian, I have worked in a variety of settings which include clinical, weight management, sport nutrition, retail sales, and private practice.

On a personal note, I am a Seattle native, now residing in Denver and have a deep appreciation for the outdoors, sunshine and all things adventure. When not at work, you’ll likely find me jogging in my city park, reading at a local café, or playing food scientist in my kitchen, experimenting with new and healthy recipes.

Q: How long have you been an RD? Do you have any additional certifications/specializations/ awards/publications you’d like to tell us about?

A: I have been practicing as a Dietitian for ten years now. I received a Bachelor’s in Food Science and Human Nutrition from Washington State University, graduating with honors. I then went on to complete my Dietetic Internship through a variety of wellness and medical institutions. My passion for preventative medicine led me to obtain my certificate in adult weight management. I stay abreast current nutrition research by attending conferences and workshops, and by immersing myself in books and journals.

Q: How did you initially find Orgain and what specifically prompted you to begin using it and recommending it to others?

A: Amongst my friends and colleagues, it was no secret that I loved starting my day off with a nutrient-packed smoothie – I still do. They’re easy, quick and perfect for an on-the-go lifestyle. My only hiccup was taste. I was consuming for fuel in order to get past the earthy taste and gritty texture.
That’s when my quest for the perfect protein powder began. I played food scientist in my kitchen and trialed several protein powders before I stumbled across Orgain. My taste buds were dancing. Smooth texture, quality ingredients, and clean taste. Orgain has since become my go-to recommendation for clients, coworkers, friends and family.

Q: What is your personal favorite Orgain product and flavor and why?

A: Orgain® Organic Protein™ and Greens in creamy chocolate fudge. This is my favorite guilt-free indulgence. In a blender, I mix up one serving of Orgain with ½ a frozen banana, ¼ avocado, acai, and cashew milk. Then I top it off with some cacao nibs and serve it with a spoon. Chocolate milkshake anyone?! It’s divine.

Q: What is your role within the company?

A: My formal title at Orgain is Nutrition Communications and Support manager. I serve as Orgain’s internal nutrition expert and work cross-functionally with several teams to create nutrition content, educational resources, and trainings. In addition to that, I will be playing a key role in helping grow our healthcare initiatives. I’ll be serving as your “go-to” nutrition resource, available for any questions you or your patients might have. I encourage you to reach out. I love what I do, and much of that stems from my passion for helping to empower others with accurate nutrition information.

TransforMe: A Medically Supervised Weight
Management Program Featuring Orgain

Kaiser Permanente of Georgia has rolled out a new a medically supervised weight-loss program, TransforME, to help its members reach and maintain their long-term weight goals. This state-of-the art program combines meal replacements with nutrition education, increased physical activity, intensive lifestyle intervention and ongoing support. Patients enrolled in the year-long program are using meal replacements as part of their diet to support portion control, quality nutrition and satiety while following a reduced calorie program.

Our patients have been using Orgain Plant Based Protein Powder, Orgain Organic Protein Nutritional Protein Shakes and Orgain Clean Protein Grass Fed Protein Shakes. At around 200 calories, high in protein, low in sugar, and fiber rich, Orgain shakes are a great meal replacement option for our patients.

HealthWell Foundation® – An independent, non-profit organization that provides financial assistance to help underinsured patients with Cystic Fibrosis get the care they need. Includes all Orgain product that are eligible for reimbursement for those with approved grant funding.
